Transforming love into action
During my recovery, the mantra that helped me and my family get through it was: ‘Mile by mile, it’s a trial; yard by yard, man it’s hard’; inch by inch, it’s a cinch!’ It is something that everyone can use when facing a difficult situation.
After Daniel’s injury, one of the most difficult things our family encountered was that people pitied us. So I came up with this quote: 'Do not pity me for what you perceive I cannot do. Come celebrate with me for what I can do.'
When Daniel came out of his coma, we just appreciated every tiny step of the way. If he started to move his pinky, that was the first miracle to us. So it is really important to celebrate all milestones no matter how small they may seem.
Daniel’s Music Foundation is a family. It’s a community in which individuals are encouraged to be themselves, and get to know one another through music, and I think it’s unlike anything else in the world.
