The Music Lab

The Lab allows members to experiment with different instruments, sounds, and rhythms. Creative movement, use of percussion instruments and some singing are encouraged in this positive, creative and innovative environment.

Music and Movement

We focus on the enjoyment of music through singing, playing rhythm instruments, movement and dancing. We incorporate drums, rhythm sticks, shakers, scarves and music from many cultures. Our main goal is for the children to have fun with their friends through music.

Keyboard and Rhythm

We focus on the C-Major scale with proper finger positioning, warm-up exercises, reading and understanding basic music notation, music theory, and playing alone and in collaboration with classmates. We encourage creativity, improvisation and the learning and playing of various rhythms.

Keyboard II

We practice chords, additional scales, and advanced melodies as well as more advanced music theory. Rhythm, creativity, improvisation and group collaboration are still emphasized.

Introduction to Voice

This class is open to all members who enjoy singing and working within a group regardless of prior experience. You just need to be willing to learn. We focus on proper singing techniques and position, voice exercises and group collaboration. A variety of popular songs are selected and practiced.

Voice Technique

This class is more structured than the Introduction to Voice class. We will explore new songs that may not be familiar to you. We will focus on how the voice works, how to improve your singing through voice exercises and to gain confidence in singing solo.

Voice Lab

We work in small groups to supplement the larger voice classes, working on voice technique, rhythm and in some cases, choreography.

Join the Band

We work in groups of 10 to 12 with each member being an integral part of the band. Taking what you have learned from our other classes, help choose your band’s name, pick an instrument (keyboard, voice, guitar, or percussion), a song and start “feeling the music” in this highly creative environment.

Introduction to Percussion

We teach the basics of percussion using a variety of instruments including congas, bongos, tambourines, shakers, hand drums, buffalo drums and even some "homemade instruments." Both group collaboration and individual solo's are encouraged.

Percussion II

We work on more advanced rhythms and emphasize collaboration using djembes, congas, bongos, and other percussion instruments.

Song Composition

We assist you in composing your very own original song in a group setting. If you choose to compose a vocal song, we assist you with the words and accompaniment. If your choice is an instrumental, we will assist you with the structure and the accompaniment of your piece.

Recreational Rhythm

We teach the basics of rhythm in a fun and positive environment and also encourage our members to experiment with different sounds and instruments – keyboard, clavinova, guitar, marimba, Beamz laser technology, and other percussion instruments.

Performance Lab

We work in small groups to supplement the larger voice classes and give you “tips” on your singing, choreography and rhythm skills to enhance your individual or group performance.

Guitar

We learn the basics of the guitar including working with the new Yamaha Smart Guitar.
